FIRST PLACE- The portrait is reminiscent of Rineke Dijkstra. The judges appreciated the control of muted colors, but wished the subjects’ pockets had been emptied of the distracting paper. SECOND PLACE-The judges appreciated the unconventional, but balanced, composition. The portrait almost falls apart in the shadows. THIRD PLACE-It’s a beautiful depiction of the kid. A much closer crop would have made it feel more like a controlled portrait and less like a candid documentary moment.
