1st place: The combination of composition, color, light facial expression combine for a compelling photograph. 2nd place: We like the graphic juxtaposition of the shirt and painting. The photographer used composition and graphics to produce a nice image of what could have been a mundane situation. 3rd place This is sweet, behind-the-scenes moment with nice use of repetition and leading lines to bring the reader to the expressful eyes.
