First place has perfect composition and the sandbags lead you through the image. The color and lack of color pulls your eyes where they should go. Second place might have benefitted from a crop (many judges had different crops in mind). It is unfortunate the man being rescued couldn't have swung out a couple more inches so the light would have lit his face, but... It is a nice moment from the type of rescue we don't often (ever) get here in Southern Indiana. Third is a frame that shows the incredible devastation a falling crane can cause. The composition interesting, too.
