Judges Comments

The Pope story was so very well done that it was a clear front-runner from the very beginning. Very well thought out by the photographer and executed with good style and pacing. It won in this category, but could easily have been the winner in the picture story/essay category. The translator photo also grabbed us immediately for it's great use of light and composition, and the connections made between all the parties in the photo. judges loved the humor in the popcorn photo and really put themselves in the photographer's shoes trying to get the shot of the two popcorn eaters synchronized in one frame. Nice moment with the kid's boots propped up.
