NY/International – January 2019 – Photo Story/Essay

Judges Comments

Judges were struck by lack of lens variety used in much of the work entered. We feel strongly that the wide angle lens should be put away and photographers need to be more conscious of backgrounds and composition. Interesting packages like snow-covered items missed the top three due to the lack of a human element. First: The mermaid "class" was funny, well-executed for the most part and the most complete package of the entries. However, there were repetitive images and judges lamented the lack of tight photos or details. Second: Special Person Day had sweet moments and was a cohesive package. Third: The Homeless count package had such potential if there was something showing the difficulty of living outside during the winter.
