A tremendously strong category, which sparked great discussions among the judges. First place was a clear choice showing the church fire as the blaze was at its peak, in what had to be an important and heart-breaking news image for that community. The image of the Houston homicide was clean and emotional, showing the impact of the dreadful loss on the family members and inspiring empathy. The fire aftermath in New Bedford was striking and sophisticatedly composed.
