General news really had everything we were looking for in this category. Although, we thought some of the pictures submitted to this category belonged in Spot News. First place: Filled with emotion. A bittersweet moment that required great concentration and foresight to get a clean background. It could have used a tighter crop, but that is subjective. Second place: Balance and symmetry with a strong moment made this picture. Every detail from the sign poking into the left side of the frame to the woman pointing to the man holding the sign. It is a well executed image from a mundane assignment. Third place: Another image of strong emotion. This placed lower because we thought it could have been shot tighter or cropped tighter. It's a striking moment.
