Second strongest category. We were impressed by the amount of exceptionally good action pictures submitted. Which made it all the more difficult to whittle it down to three winners. The first place photo showed the essence of conflict and competition that is every sporting event. The raw emotion and unusual action was captured in a meaningful and interesting way. Second place was a flying football helmet, helmetless football player making a dynamic tackle, which now is the standard for amazing flying object photos. Third place: Perfect diving composition beat all those other photos that didn't slice time as perfectly. The photographer used that thing we call talent to use the right lens, the right spot and right moment to get lucky. Clearly, prepared to be lucky. Talent.
