A lot of good peak action photographs were in this category and flying bodies dominated the volume. We chose a volleyball collision for our first place entry for its uniqueness and timing. It’s a difficult sport to photograph and the photographer was spot on. In second place, a one-handed catch with sharp focus impressed the judges. We liked the cropping showing the defender watching helplessly in the background. And in third place, we were impressed with the focus on the face plant and the flying hat, horse out of focus in the foreground. We didn’t need to see the subject's face – could just imagine…
