Judges Comments

1st Framing a natural disaster can be difficult but the photographer did a nice job with this. Image gives a sense of location and the photographer waited for people to enter the frame. 2nd Smoke, ash, lighting, framing. A very well executed spot news image. 3rd The photographer got close, captured the emotion and was able to gather the information for the cutline to tell the story. Composition could have been tighter to elicit more emotion or looser to set the scene more. With that said, there were a lot of reaction images in the selects and this was the best of the bunch.
