First place was a unique way of showcasing a political issue with subtleties. Everything about the photo adds information and doesn’t distract. Also it's well tones and composed. Second place had great light, lots of color, and gave the viewer a sense about her and what she does. The background also contributes to image’s context. Third place was also well lit on the subject, but we felt the the background held the photo’s potential back and could have been much more engaging.
