All three winners exhibited thoughtfulness and told their subjects’ stories truthfully and honorably. The first-place winner is a well-executed take on a timely film debut with great composition and layering that made us look at the picture for a lot longer than most. Our second-place selection is an intimate, quiet portrait with a well-crafted cutline that helped tell the story more completely. Ditto for our third place winner – we’re suckers for symmetry and the literal reflection of a subject who mirrors her own personal life experience in her work.
