The first place essay went above and beyond the typical spot news coverage to capture a feeling and issues secondary to the fire. We really got a sense of what it felt like for the people who were most affected by this tragedy. Second place did a nice job of showing an intense moment between police and the friend or family member of the shooting victim. It would have been nice if the man's name was in the caption. The third-place photo had a lot of emotion as well. The photographer should be commended for capturing that much emotion from the man being arrested.
