Judges Comments

This was a difficult category to judge. There was a sense of almost parity, in that the vast majority of images, virtually all portraits, were of similar level of proficiency. Well-composed, well-lit and giving a good sense of a person's appearance. There was not a lot of depth though. We could not surmise a lot of substance to the people from just the images and a lot of captions left us very flat. If the images does not tell us, visually, what we need to know, the caption should. First climbed to the top for being pretty near flawlessly executed, if somewhat cliche. Second was our favorite of the shallow but visually appealing posed portraits and third was a nice, heartwarming series that was well-executed.
