We were not surprised by how few entries there were. It seems time for anything even marginally in-depth is gone from most shops these days. First was almost obvious for the access to a challenging, and very timely, topic. A couple of the more mundane images could have been skipped in the edit, but the overall execution was strong, with intimate access, emotion and technical proficiency. Second actually had a couple of singles we felt were the best single images of the category but as a very simple topic with must easier access fell just short of first. Third was a good collection of images, with variety in subject matter as well as composition and lighting. The topic is pretty light, but won over remaining entries for the artistic and technical merits.
