First place is a tremendous peak-action picture of an interesting sport
not often photographed. Second place is a great “holy #!&!” action
picture made in cinematic light, but we so wish we knew who the rider
was (and if they emerged safely from the fall); the missing caption
info kept this picture out of First Place. In the third-place entry, the
steer’s eye and the flying dirt really elevated this picture over other
similar ones we saw in this category. The solid faces and peak action
of the honorable mention selection were laudable, although we wish
there was less motion-blur.
