Judges Comments

The first place entry is a solid essay edited tightly with a nice variety of pictures that each add value to the story. The second place story was a good approach to a compelling story subject, with a number of very well-done pictures, but a tighter edit with more pictures that got closer to Justin would have made this a first-place contender. For third place, the goose-bite picture is what sold us on the story, even though we wished a few pictures had captions that identified the subjects. The honorable mention essay is an interesting look at an interesting island community, although it felt less like a story than a broad collection of pictures in a unique place.
