1st - Not to knock the winners in this category, but this was a rough
month to judge spot news. There just wasn’t a lot to choose from.
However, this first place image stood out because of its nice
composition and spacing of elements in the frame; its use of available
light and color; and the pictorial feel of the picture.
2nd - This is a decent picture of the photographer perhaps arriving a
bit late to the scene. The photographer used the compositional
elements and made a storytelling image.
3rd - We liked the situation the photographer got in to, but felt a
moment of some sort would have helped this picture.
