General News contained some fairly strong content especially considering our opinion that it is one of the most difficult categories by virtue of content. Let’s face it. Shooting portfolio-strength images while performing the bread and butter of a daily news photographer’s regimen, telling visual stories about the ebb and flow of your city or state’s daily agenda, can be exceedingly hard. Yet it is our belief that general news coverage is the testing ground, the battlefield to becoming a better photo journalist. In other words, if you can approach these assignments with a creative eye then you can find the same in virtually every other situation most of us face everyday.
