Mid Morning Mess - Seth VoorheesTIME WARNER CABLE ROCHESTERJudges Comments
Jon Menell - Well covered with nicely worked shots and perspective. A little longer than needed. Final 20 seconds seemed redundant. _____________________________ Becca Habegger - Here’s a great example of a standard day-turn that good editing turned into an enjoyable and interesting piece. The solo journalist made great use of natural highway sound and used that to interact with shots, via quick cuts and natural sound bridges. Commendable effort in the variety of shots and interviews. Overall good pacing. We felt the story could’ve been a tad shorter.

Jon Menell - Well told and sequenced. _________________________ Becca Habegger - Good breaking up tracking with sound pops in the beginning - effective. “An IED took her soulmate” could’ve had more weight to it - I felt editing choices made it feel rushed, breezed through it too quickly. Interspersing the reading of names with tracking was also effective. Sweet moment with the boy kissing his dad’s flag - good use of nats there - but then the story ends rather abruptly. Good emotion, overall, but I would’ve like to see a more solidified ending.

Jon Menell - Nice portrait and juxtaposition with good emotion. Music was a bit overriding. Some strong elements, but felt a bit underdeveloped. _________________________ Becca Habegger - This was a touching piece, but some edits were rough. We saw a few jarring jump cuts, and the tone of the music didn’t always jive with the more playful, lighter moments. Really heart-breaking emotion on the son’s contemplation of his father’s grave - good choice to hang on that and let it play out.
