Renowned as “the contest designed for photojournalists by photojournalists,” and incorporating the many facets of the visual journalism industry, NPPA’s Best of Photojournalism competition annually attracts the most talented professionals in four divisions – still photography, video, online visual journalism, and editing – collectively representing nearly 100 categories.
In 2019 the Best of Photojournalism (BOP) contest moved to its new home at the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication in Athens, Georgia, joining NPPA which relocated its national office to UGA in 2015. Thanks to its new home at Grady College the 2019 contest was also able to introduce a new entry and judging system which has streamlined the entry process. Also as part of the competition’s move to Grady College and UGA all new entries for the contest will be housed at the UGA Special Collections Libraries archives for future reference and educational programs.
NPPA and UGA would like to welcome Sony Electronics who came on board as a platinum sponsor of the contest in 2019.
The images and stories entered in the competition are created by some of the most outstanding visual journalists of our time. More than just compelling photos and videos, though, the entries are storytelling images and essays about some of the most important issues facing us today. The competition truly is a rejoicing of the fact that photojournalism remains the best way to tell the world’s story!
Best of Photojournalism is open to professional photographers, editors and online photojournalists. A $75 entry fee is required to enter the contest but that is waived with NPPA membership.
