Judges Comments

The first-place picture was a nice moment from a routine assignment and good expression on the kid's face. We all thought it was something a bit different. The second and third-place winners were a series of pictures, and we all felt that it was really hard to judge those against the single images. The USS Bush series had a number of nice images that stood out, but the edit was a bit redundant and there was one we would have cut. Also with both second and third place, there was no order or visual flow in the way the pictures were sequenced. Multiple images should still read like a picture story and have a definitive opener, closer and range of wide to tight. We liked the emotion of the governor crying in our alternate pick, but it was not enough to place.
