Quite a few peak-moment, well-captured moments competed against each other in Sports Action, making the final selections subject to some back-and-forth discussion. Many were versions of photos we've seen before, which doesn't de-value them at all, but ultimately we ended up selection those which seemed to fit the action category the best.
The first award soccer photos is a case in point. Perfect timing, execution and lighting combine for a top-notch capture.
The second award too, while maybe not helped by the square crop, had us engaged. It doesn't seem like things were going to end well for the center subject.
We griped about the crop of the third award, too, but ultimately elevated it for the unique facial expression and timing.
