Judges Comments

First Place: The lighting in “Block” is dramatic and highlights the subject very well. We also like the relaxed pose of the subject. Second Place: We like the mood that is set in “Guitar Man” with the available light, but we thought the subject could have been posed differently — maybe if he was closer to the camera or holding the guitar in a different way. It just felt a little flat right up against the wall. Third Place: “Pop Group” is shot at too much of an angle. We felt the dramatically tilted horizon wasn't necessary. But, we appreciate the thought that went behind posing the subjects and using natural light. Alternate: The portrait of “Crichaelle Cadet” could have been shot at a higher angle to eliminate the lights in the library. And maybe if it was lit with a strobe, the subject could have popped a little more.
