Judges ultimately selected individual images over a half-dozen multiple picture entries and a wide variety of single images in the General News category. While certain frames within the multiple entries may have been elevated on their own, redundant or lesser images amid in the edits sometimes diminished the submissions in our opinion.
First - The Israeli memorial photo captured our interest with light that not only captured the mood of the event, but also illuminated the flag in a way that elevated the news value. All agreed that a crop from the right might have improved the frame even more.
Second - Originally thought the high kick image might have been mis-categorized, but after reading the caption and realizing it is a photo from a planned event in observance of Indigenous People's Day, we were sold. Unique, engaging, peak-moment capture. Very nicely done.
Third - Ah.. voting photos. We've all done a bunch, and for every memorable frame it seems there's a bunch of pretty forgettable ones. This one falls in the former category. Congrats for getting something out of the ordinary.
HM - The Indian dance photo was beautifully framed and exposed.
