Judges Comments

First place was immediate for us - a classical interpretation of a feature photo. Strong graphics from the stairs combined with a secondary element of the rider going by to give it a break in the pattern. The second place image rose quickly, as well, showing the photojournalist's ability to use photographic techniques (low angle, dramatic lighting) to make a simple moment give pause. The third place image was a very touching moment with some elegant layering to it. It was the quietest of the three winners but, again, drew us in and made us pause to ponder.
