Judges Comments

First place shows the photographer took care to balance the exposure between the natural and artificial light. The strobe is harsh and stylized. Second place uses flash in an environment where good natural light can be hard to come by. This category was weak overall and we chose not to award a third place or alternate. For illustrations and posed and lit portraits, take time to plan and prepare - you're in control, so show that you've thought about everything included (or not) in the frame. Candid portraits are less about control, but should show us a moment or insight into the person being photographed.
