The first place winner had nice composition and used the available light to their advantage. By including the works of art in the frame, we also gained a better understanding of the subject’s line of work. The second place winning image was well shot with timeless tools of the trade. We liked that the posing of the subject reflected the noble endeavor that he is about to embark on. The third place image evoked strong emotion but could have better used the window light so that the windows in the background are not blowing out the frame and pulling the eye away from the subject. The alternate image (woman playing cello in a field) was a nice environmental portrait, but the colors were over saturated. The mountains are burned in a little too much and contrast is also too high.
