First place – The immigrants from Haiti story was photographed well and made us feel like we were on a bit of their journey to the U.S. The light was nice as was the different lens choices to tell the story. The one knock we had on it was the lack of decent captions. Nearly all were the same and they didn't specify if the people were in Texas or Mexico. We pulled out a map and were able to figure it out, but we'd suggest writing a better caption after the dust settles a bit and you enter it into a contest. Second place – This story, again on the plight of the Haiti immigrants, was told in a different way. Both stories were effective, but the first got the edge because the photographer had better access and took us along for the journey. This story gives us more of a look at the hardships put in place by bureaucracy. A lot of bases were covered in this in-depth look at what the people faced once they made it to U.S. soil. Third place – This day-in-the-life story of a fisherman going in search of alligator gar has some arresting images. We felt like it had a couple too many images, but offered us some visual variety and nice use of color and light.
