This was a really weak category. Several photos really were general news (and not great at that either). Courtroom coverage is general news. While there are aspect of a blizzard that could be spot news, someone out shoveling snow just does not have the immediacy. In the end, one photo stood out. It had immediacy and emotion. It did need a better crop. The caption could be far better as well. Given the time between publishing and entering the contest, you are more than welcome to update the caption to give the judges more information.
