The first place image has a cinematic quality to it, from the snow, the gesture of the official's hand as he walks under the police tape. The second-place image is eye-popping due to the reflection and color of the emergency lights. It caught our eyes and made us stick with the image longer. The third-place winner features a couple of strong images, especially #3, which provides us a lot of information and sets the scene. We appreciated the photographer's coverage of a difficult situation, however, we did think that it could have been edited down to just a few images for the contest.
