Our choices in this category all showed strong storytelling moments. First place captured the family and community's devastation after what sounds to be a senseless killing. The photographer's position seems to show that they had a rapport with the family or that they were able to be discreet and respectful in capturing a powerful moment. Second place gave a sense of the impact the coronavirus has had on businesses and their long-time employees. Third place was anchored by the strong connection between the women in the lead photo. The edit could have been tightened, but multiple photos rounded out the sense of the vigil. Some of the images were accompanied by strong captions that filled out the context of the event and helped tell the story.
