Many images were disqualified because there was no discernible story arc, and served as photo galleries rather than photo stories. Others were disqualified because they were incomplete. First place: The photographer did a fantastic job of telling the story of a transgender Air Force instructor. The topic is important, relevant and worthy of discussion. We could tell the photographer spent a lot of time and care when working on the story. The captions are well written and provide plenty of context for the viewer. Second place: This is a good story with great moments. Kudos to the photographer for being in the right place, and not missing important events in this man’s recovery. Third place: This story has a lot of potential, but we felt that is was missing certain elements that would have made the story whole. Perhaps telling the story through the lens of a single subject would help. Good job, but I would suggest working on this a little more.
