RC KARE - 9 9 8 9 - Neat story. You really made it sing with your shooting and editing. Nice GoPro use. The way you shot and edited the little baby segment was great. The only thing that bothered me was your interview set ups. Change them up, be creative. Here a good bite, move, change up the look. Otherwise, great piece. |
CN KARE - 9 8 8 8 - Great story. Way to take a tradtitional GA story and put some life into it. Loved the sequencing with the milk and with the child. Great moment with mom getting her to coo. I felt like there were places where it could have been little tighter. Try to keep shots steady. There were a few shots with some movement that wasn't necessary. |
JS KARE - 9 8 8 9 - Good story, and well shot. Fridge soundbite at beginning was...ahem...cool! Lots of good nat pops. Some edits could be tighter...others were just right. Pick the heart of the nat and get back to the storyline. Example at 1:14...the rubbing of the tape isn't much of a nat, but that tape stretch is. I'd just use that part as sound up full and leave the rest under the bites. The pace takes a hit when waiting for more nats to happen.

RC KARE - 8 8 7 8 - What a fun shoot. You moved the mic around great. Captured some really nice moments with the instructors and the kids. The opening shot really got me ready to have fun. A couple nat pops were a little over modulated. Really nice job. |
JS KARE - 8 8 8 8 - Really well shot! Good sequencing and use of closeups to go with cool shots. You probably could've used a tight or medium shot at 1:10 to break up that wide-to-wide cut with the interview. Dissolve your audio in and out so it's seamless instead of abruptly cutting on and off. I could tell that you did that sometimes, but others completely blasted on or died at the cuts. Submit your contest entries with mixed audio! First, it's the rule. Also, listening to the nats bed in just one ear made those jarring cuts more obvious while judging, and it's hard to judge your mix with split audio. Don't get a DQ from a meaner judge down the road! |
CN KARE - 8 8 8 7 - Nicely shot. I loved all the tight shots to help get you in and out of things. The moments are what made this piece to me, the lady cheering them on, the nervous guy near the beginning. There was one spot where the audio was way too loud. Really blasted my ears. Try to make audio nice and smooth throughout and pan up and down out of everything. One thing I would have loved to see was their faces as the ziplined through the trees. You can tell a lot about a person and their face. Whether they are joyful or afraid, I felt like that was one thing that was missing. Nice work.

JS KARE - 10 9 9 9 - Very cool! Great Memorial Day story. Good nats. Good reaction shots throughout. Good pacing. Kept me interested the whole way! A couple of audio cuts could've faded in or out to avoid the abrupt cutoffs, and in a perfect world, some of the soundbites would've had more variety in framing, but you shot the heck out of this. Great job! |
RC KARE - 8 7 7 8 - Way to shoot and move. You also did a nice job with the nats, and nat sequences. Good moment captured with the man wiping the sweat off the Marine. I would have liked a little more interaction with the public and him. Also, varying up the interview look would have helped move the piece a little better. Great angle for a Memorial Day piece. |
CN KARE- 8 8 7 8 - Way to move around and change up your shots. Also you were able to capture some touching moments which really helped the piece and showed you were commited. Lots of car honking really gave the sense that people genuinly cared for what this man was standing for. I was interested throughout. A few audio pans needed to be smoother, felt like they cut out kind of hard. Also toward the end some shots seemed to have movement without purpose.

JS KARE - 8 7 8 7 - Nice shots. A little heavy on the tight shots as opposed to more of a mix of wides and tights...even the interviews started to feel claustrophobic when everything was jammed into the screen. Good mix of nats throughout. A few more juxtaposition shots showing the relationship between the two groups could've helped. |
RC KARE - 8 8 7 8 - Very well done piece. Pacing in the edit was great. Good shots and nats throughout. I feel like I needed a shot giving me perspective how close the two groups were. Maybe a sped up walk shot, or a ultra wide shot from up above. Needed a stronger ending shot in my opinion. The interview looks could have been changed up. A couple times the reporter track was a little faint in comparison with the nats. Solid day turn. |
CN KARE - 8 8 8 8 - Way to keep this piece moving with the protestors. I like that you made the piece feel like I wanted to keep watching. Lots of good emotion. Piece needed an ending shot. Nice emotional bite from the lady and then you nated up the cow bell and I thought the piece was going to keep going. The sound bite was naturally taking you to the end. Well done.
