General News was a difficult category to judge. There were many photos that didn’t rise to be above average. Press conference and organized events can produce award winning images, but the photographer needs to look beyond the lectern. The first place image stood out due to the photographer finding a nice overhead angle to show the event in a cleanly composed and interesting way. Second was a nice tight find from an event. Third place image was a nice although very routine candlelight vigil image.
