Judges Comments

This category consisted of nine entries, the best of which rose to the top quickly. The three winners were compelling due to their emotional or evocative content and their simplicity in picture usage. First place worked because the editor/designer used the photo of the sensitive moment alone on the page, allowing it to be the center of attention without being unencumbered by distracting secondary visual elements. Second and third place, from the same newspaper, used the excellent picture in a meaningful way.
