Deadline videos are a challenge because of both the quick turn around and because the assigned stories are often common events. The first-place winner did an excellent job of making an engaging story from people cleaning up a veteran’s cemetery. The story of a military father surprising his daughters on his return home rose above the average coverage as the journalist showed and interviewed the father behind-the-scenes before the reunion. Third place covered a cultural dance performance, but elevated the video through editing and the visuals.
