The judges awarded this first place because they felt it was a well-researched work of photojournalism and could tell the student put in a great deal of care and effort gathering the story. The editing choices are interesting and the piece has a cinematic feel. The judges did think that the piece could be edited a bit tighter, but overall good job.

2nd Place

The judges liked this piece because it told a story without the usual talking head interviews. The use of the drone and gopro added to the story and didn't feel like a gimmick. They discussed the fact that it was a promo piece (in a photojournalism contest) but in the end felt that the work did convey a good non-fiction story!

3rd Place

The judges felt that this was a sweet and tender story that really captured Betty Louis Keifer. There were a lot of great shots that took advantage of the motion in the cleaners and really brought the story to life. Like the 1st place winner, judges felt the piece could use another pass of editing to tighten it up, but overall were charmed by this story.
