Midwest – November 2019 – Sports Action

Judges Comments

FIRST PLACE-The photo elevates the sport in a graceful moment of peak action. This is one of those rare moments when a photograph tells more than the story of the moment but also the story of the game. This is clearly an interception – not a reception – a pivotal moment in the game. SECOND PLACE-This is a moment of peak action with clear storytelling. The photo has fantastic texture from the ice in the air. There is great control of highlights in a difficult exposure. THIRD PLACE-The judges know how hard it is to photograph high school sports with bad lights and are impressed with the photographer’s abilty to capture a fast-moving, high-energy moment while still capturing the eyes of the runner and some of the emotion of the moment.
