Judges Comments

So... An essay is entered about a Martin Tower and how it was iconic of Bethlehem Steel and how it was "being torn down this weekend," AND THERE ARE NO PHOTOS OF THAT! That left us baffled. Six pictures that were a great start to an interesting socio-economic story, but it just died? Sorry that one didn't have more! More on importance of CAPTIONS: On the "first transgender candidate for city office," THAT information wasn't given until the sixth photo! We were trying to figure out why he was so different. 1st, While the edit could be tightened, this was a nice collection of images, with a variety of moments and use of light around the kids and horses. 2nd, Following up with families after young people are killed is always a hard assignment. The photographer clearly earned this mom's confidence and she wanted to tell her story. 3rd, The transgender candidate took a great time investment. This photographer had a luxury of time, we hope they appreciated that! This story could have benefited from more variety of lenses.
