The photographer of the first place series captured an incredible moment showing a police officer carrying a toddler from a car accident. However , we felt that this entry would have been much stronger if this one photo was submitted as a standalone. The photographer of the second place series captured a major accident very well, but we feel that the number of images submitted could have been a lot less. The third place image shows a very intense moment between an officer and a suspect that isn't always easy to capture. We really wish that the photographer who entered the series on the family displaced by a fire was submitted into the photo story or general news category. It was an extremely strong set of images that would have placed in another category, but we didn't feel it fit into the spot news section.
