West – March 2017 – Photo Story/Essay

Judges Comments

First place was a well thought out essay. Every photo had purpose and fit together with unity to tell this story. The photographer also had a nice variety of images that showed the multiple aspects of this story. Second place was a very close runner-up. It would have benefited by a tighter crop. Leaving out 05, 06, and 09 would have probably elevated it to the top spot, but we couldn't overlook the redundancy. We really liked the variety of moments and intimacy in the other photos. Marsha has a unique story, and this photographer did a great job of capturing that. The third-place story had a nice variety of images, but we would have liked to see more pictures of real-life events instead of drills. This may not have been a realistic expectation given time constraints, but we commend the photographer for making a nice set of images.
