Several photos filed in this category would have been better suited in
the feature category, which disqualified them.
Regardless of first place being a photo of Trump, we all found it to be
a hilarious look at a political event. The crying babies with the
politician looking like he might start crying over the situation was
priceless. The thumbs up in the background was the icing on the
cake.
Second place also made us laugh. The caption helped to flesh out the
background on the photo and gave an interesting insight to a different
type of job. The humor helped to raise this above a mundane photo of
a cat rescue guy.
Third was a nicely framed moment of emotion in an otherwise
standard rally situation. The caption was also an interesting look as to
what the rally was for.
We really liked the Meeting Light photo that we gave an honorable
mention, but it just wasn't quite there with news. We played around
with the crop a little to see if it could be made stronger. Overall it was
a nice frame but it was missing that extra something to move it out of
honorable mention.
